Whilst the news circling around Bootham Crescent this week has all been about one striker, it has also been an especially difficult time for another two.

Michael Gash and Michael Rankine have both appeared at York Crown Court relating to charges following an incident at the city Subway sandwich outlet over a year ago.

York’s latest England ‘C’ forward Gash pleaded guilty to affray along with ex-City winger Craig Nelthorpe, while Rankine also admitted guilt, but to a lesser charge. Each will be sentenced on October 6th and have been warned they could even face jail.

Meanwhile, skipper Michael Ingham’s not guilty plea was accepted and he faces no further action after prosecution described his involvement as “minimal.”

The court also accepted a not guilty plea from Nelthorpe to a count of assault causing actual bodily harm and the players were all granted conditional bail.
