York City boss Martin Foyle is considering a loan deal for Leeds United’s teenage defender Liam Darville as a solution to his problem right-back position.

Darville has already appeared for York as a trialist during pre-season and could now be required as recent signing Duane Courtney was again missing at Market Drayton Town last night.

The former Kidderminster Harriers defender has managed only half-a-game due to a continuing knee problem since moving to Bootham Crescent. Djoumin Sangare filled the void in the 3-1 victory before himself having to be replaced by second-year apprentice Jonny Andrew as his hamstring tightened just before the break.

Meanwhile, summer recruit from Altrincham, Greg Young, was another unavailable with a bruised foot, although manager Martin Foyle could find complications over any proposed deal for 19-year-old Darville as he is now on trial at Tranmere Rovers.

“The injuries are majorly disappointing because I want both players on the pitch and they want to be on the pitch,” he told The Press. “Greg has seen a chiropodist and he will take part at North Ferriby on Saturday.

“Duane`s also had a scan and got the all clear,” Foyle continued. “There are no problems there so, hopefully, he can crack on now but, with the start of the season ten days away, I am having to audition people at right-back.

“Liam Darville`s in my mind and I might need to think about bringing him in now although he was playing for Tranmere last night.”
