A clearly distraught David Ferguson admits the severe current problems at York City have even begun affecting his own personal life.

The Minstermen made it four straight defeats and more than six hours since their last goal when going down to a lone second-half strike at FC United of Manchester last night.

While it remains mathematically possible they could yet make the end-of-season play-offs, that is simply no longer going to happen, meaning the club is once again consigned to a part-time regional league next term.

“Terrible. It’s one of the worst I’ve felt,” Ferguson admitted to TheYorkMix. “It’s even affecting my personal life, that’s how much it hurts. It’s just hard to take.

“You look at the last few games and it’s 1-0, 1-0. We haven’t taken the lead and are struggling to score,” he continued. “So I think for us it’s trying to take that lead straight away. I thought we played well first-half but just need to take opportunities.

“I’ve questioned myself and it’s putting us down, that’s how much it hurts. Everyone’s trying. I feel sorry for the fans travelling all this way. And obviously the play-offs now – it looks like it’s over.

“It’s hurt me really badly. I don’t like losing but I think for the fans as well – they’ll be driving home back north and will be hurt just as much as I am.”
