York City full-back Duane Courtney is relishing the prospect of a return to his former club Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup.
“Playing at Kidderminster would be a big target for me but, at the moment, I am looking no further ahead than Saturday`s home match against Bath” – Duane Courtney |
The 25-year-old defender already has unhappy memories of conceding a late penalty to his previous employers on his debut for York as they slipped to surprise home defeat on the opening day of the season.
But he remains determined to reclaim a starting place for the Minstermen and earn revenge ahead of the two clubs’ FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Aggborough Stadium later this month.
“I like games that have something extra on them. It makes the match more of a challenge and I won`t shy away from that,” Courtney told The Press. “I`d look forward to playing against them. I made one bad decision in the last game and gave away the penalty but I had no problem controlling my emotions, even if the Kiddy fans took my comments before the game the wrong way.
“I would love it if their fans gave me stick again and, at the end of the day, it`s all about what happens on the pitch, not what`s going on around it,” he added. “I wasn`t happy with what their manager said to me at the end of the game though.
“That really hurt and I would definitely be out to get him back for that. Playing at Kidderminster would be a big target for me but, at the moment, I am looking no further ahead than Saturday`s home match against Bath.”
