Former York City striker Clayton Donaldson has signed for Brentford after deciding to leave Crewe Alexandra.

“I saw him when he played for Crewe last year and his movement impressed me most – his running off the ball is very good and he takes up good positions to receive the ball” – Uwe Rosler

The 27-year-old netted 28 goals for Alex last season to finish as top scorer in League Two. His overall record is 49 goals in 134 games at Gresty Road, including 42 in his last 77 appearances, since arriving from SPL Hibernian three years ago.

“Clayton will give us movement, speed and directness and he is a good finisher,” Bees manager Uwe Rosler told Brentford’s official website. “I saw him when he played for Crewe last year and his movement impressed me most – his running off the ball is very good and he takes up good positions to receive the ball.

“His goal record in the last 18 months is second to none and he has built up a lot of confidence since then,” he added. “I am confident he will continue to score goals at League One level.”
