Front duo could hold the golden key

York City manager Martin Foyle believes that it is his strike pivots of Richard Brodie and Michael Rankine who could prove the difference between two otherwise very well-matched sides at Wembley tomorrow.

The pair have already plundered almost fifty goals between them this term, while each has also netted against play-off finalists Oxford United earlier in the campaign.

“We know they are petrified of Richard Brodie and Michael Rankine,” Foyle told The Press.

The Minstermen’s team selection appears pretty well clear cut on the eve of the contest, although Foyle will need to concentrate his thoughts on selecting the right balance on the bench.

Costly summer signing Michael Gash and former skipper Danny Parslow are certainties, while Foyle will also, on this occasion, include a reserve goalkeeper in Josh Mimms.

The remaining two places would appear a straight fight between Djoumin Sangare, Adam Smith, Courtney Pitt, Richard Pacquette and Paul Harsley, with Jamie Clarke and Kevin Gall perhaps now only cast as outsiders.

“It`s very, very hard to pick the substitutes,” added Foyle. “The players know what the starting XI is but the substitutes have been changing recently depending on whether we`ve been home or away, or playing in the league or the cup.”

“I don`t usually go with a `keeper but I will do in a one-off match. There will be one or two broken hearts, but I can`t please everybody.”
