Manager Martin Foyle has called upon York City supporters to give chief talisman Richard Brodie a little extra loving this weekend as the fearless striker looks to end his recent goal drought.

The England ‘C’ international netted 37 times last season but has so far failed to hit the back of the net in four attempts this time around, which given his incredible reliability at Bootham Crescent is suddenly viewed as something of a major crisis.

And that has left his manager requesting the York fans to show just how much he means to them when Brodie lines up against bottom club Altrincham – against whom he scored the first of his 71 York goals – this weekend.

“He has got himself in [scoring] positions,” Foyle told The Press. “People are talking about getting Richard Brodie back to his best. He is always willing and always honest.

“At the moment, he probably doesn`t feel wanted,” he continued. “‘We will put an arm around him and try and work him. Of course Richard wants to be here. We love him to bits.

“When you get that negativity and people making up rumours and stories [about proposed transfer moves] it makes it very hard. Maybe his head has been turned a little and we will get him back down to basics.”
