York City goalkeeper Jon Worsnop is to focus more on coaching at Bootham Crescent, although he will still be available to play in an emergency.

The 34-year-old has made fourteen appearances for the Minstermen after joining from Bradford Park Avenue in the summer, until losing his senior place for their latest victory against Brackley Town.

Manager Martin Gray instead preferred ex-Watford shot-stopper Luke Simpson on that occasion, and has since brought in highly-rated Leeds United youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell on a month’s loan.

“Jon’s going to come a little bit more this side of the fence regarding helping me coaching with the goalkeepers,” Gray explained to The Press. “He’s getting to that age of his career and we’ve had a conversation of where we see his future being.

“So we’ve got to work very closely with Jon and try help him develop the goalkeepers from a goalkeeper coaching point of view,” he added. “And if there’s an emergency he steps up to the plate as well.”

Worsnop also includes earlier spells with Bradford City, Chester, Aberystwyth Town, Droylsden, Leigh Genesis, Guiseley, FC United of Manchester and Alfreton Town.
