Recovering midfielder Scott Kerr could return to the side for tomorrow evening’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round tie with Coventry City at Bootham Crescent.

“He wouldn’t have been out there on Saturday if he wasn’t close to starting” – Gary Mills

The 30-year-old began his comeback as a second-half substitute in the scoreless weekend draw against Rotherham United after seven months out with a cruciate knee injury.

“He wouldn’t have been out there on Saturday if he wasn’t close to starting,” manager Gary Mills told The Press. “He will get sharper the more minutes he gets and it might be better that he gets that in games like Saturday and tomorrow rather than in reserve matches.”

As well as the return of Kerr, York also introduced latest signing Daniel Kearns from the bench against the Millers and he nearly set-up a late winner.

“It’s early days for him but he can open teams up as he did for Ash Chambers’ late chance,” added Mills. “That was a great ball in to create one of our few opportunities of getting a goal.”
