Stylish midfieler Alex Lawless is desperately keen for York City to embark on a long and profitable home run.

The Minstermen were virtually unbeatable at Bootham Crescent last season, with only successive blips against Eastbourne Borough and Salisbury City spoiling an otherwise very impressive record.

However, York really got off on the wrong foot this time around when a couple of defensive errors gifted Kidderminster Harriers a 2-1 victory on the opening day of the season.

“We had a good record at home last year and the Kidderminster game is one to put right now,” Lawless told The Press. “We want to start that record again. There is no reason why we can`t go on a long record for home wins so, with not winning at Bath, I think everyone is more than up for the Barrow game.”

The former Welsh under-21 international has recently been occupying a more central role in midfield following a change in formation and the loss through injury of Levi Mackin.

“I personally am enjoying it,” he added. “The gaffer has asked me [to get involved more centrally] but I am happy to play wherever the gaffer puts me.”
