Manager Gary Mills admitted he was “gobsmacked” after witnessing his worst defeat in charge of York City.

Struggling League One visitors Coventry City couldn’t quite believe their luck as they struck four times without reply following a scoreless first-half in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round tie at Bootham Crescent.
The Minstermen certainly gave as good as they received during an opening half in which they once again failed to make the most of their available opportunities.
But the second period was a completely different affair as dreadful defensive errors from Clarke Carlisle and Scott Kerr gifted goals to on loan Nottingham Forest striker David McGoldrick and Callum Ball. McGoldrick later added his second of the evening and substitute Chris Hussey snatched a fourth just before the end.
“I can’t believe what I’ve just watched,” a clearly frustrated Mills railed to BBC Radio York. “We’ve given them three goals. You’re not going to win any football matches playing like that.
“We’ve just given goals away. It hurts, I’m gobsmacked,” he continued. “Not good enough. It’s my job to address it and my job to do something about it.”
York next move on to a big local derby at Bradford City this weekend when there will clearly need to be a massive improvement at both ends of the pitch.
