York City boss Gary Mills admits that relegation probably reduces the chances of recruiting goalkeeper Scott Loach.

The former England Under-21 international made nine appearances for the Minstermen after arriving on loan from Notts County in March and has since been released by his parent club.

“He’s just been released and, if we had stayed up, he had already expressed an interest in being here next season, although I think the fact that we’ve gone down might put a stop to him coming back,” Mills confirmed to The Press. “But it’s early days and Scott will be weighing up his options, so you never know.”

Meanwhile, Mills also revealed that defender Matt Fry could be a shock contender for the weekend FA Trophy final against Macclesfield Town after performing well in training following recovery from medial knee ligament trouble.

However, Simon Lappin, Lanre Oyebanjo and Clovis Kamdjo are definitely unavailable but would still be travelling to Wembley, while Sam Muggleton was recruited too late to be involved.

Alex Whittle is therefore expected to be recalled, with goalkeeper Kyle Letheren similarly returning.
