Former caretaker manager Andy Porter says he left York City with pride this week.

“I wanted the manager`s job and it is hard then to go back to assistant” – Andy Porter

The 42-year-old departed the Minstermen on Wednesday after four games in temporary charge following the recent resignation of manager Martin Foyle.

And Porter believes the pair can both leave with heads held high after leading the club to an unprecedented two Wembley appearances in twelve months and back into the FA Cup third round last season.

“There is a bit of pride with what we have done,” he told The Press. “We had 21 months together me and Martin and they were good times.”

Regarding his own sudden exit following the disappointing home loss to Kettering Town on Tuesday evening, Porter added: “Decisions have to be made. Not just for the club but for myself. It was no good dragging it on. The club wants stability.

“I wanted an answer quickly. I had four games and if I had got a result [against Kettering] things could have been different. I wanted the manager`s job and it is hard then to go back to assistant.

“They [the board] were very good,” he continued. “They did everything properly and were very helpful. They let me bring in a player before the Tuesday game to try to get a result but it wasn`t to be.”
