York City caretaker manager Andy Porter has left the club immediately following their 1-0 home defeat to Kettering Town.

Porter had been in charge for the last four games – winning one, drawing one and losing two – since the resignation of Martin Foyle less than a fortnight ago. He originally joined the Minstermen as the assistant to Foyle in December 2008.

A statement issued on the club’s official website read: “York City would like to thank Andy Porter for his efforts and the important contribution he has made during his time as assistant manager and, more recently, caretaker manager.

“After receiving a number of applications for the position of manager, the board of directors has compiled a short list and is in the process of interviewing prospective candidates.

“The club hopes to make an announcement regarding the appointment of York City’s new manager as soon as possible. We would like to thank our fans for their continued support and patience following the surprise resignation of Martin Foyle.”
