Ben Purkiss is reported to be a target for Oxford United, who defeated the Minstermen in their play-off final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The 26-year-old former Gainsborough Trinity right-back has made almost 150 senior appearances for York since arriving at the club three years ago.

However, ex-Sheffield United trainee Purkiss has turned down a second offer of a new contract at Bootham Crescent, and there are already rumours of enquiries from Chris Wilder at Oxford.

Such a move to the Kassam Stadium would appear something of a surprise though, especially when considering the performance of U’s current right-back Damian Batt at Wembley.

York manager Martin Foyle has already lost the services of winger Adam Smith for next season after he elected to join Mansfield Town in a one-year deal.
