Defender Daniel Parslow says that York City are fully focused going into their weekend FA Cup third qualifying round visit to South Shields.

FA Vase winners Shields have maintained their impressive form since, as with their latest opponents, collecting a trophy at Wembley in May – and are already setting the pace in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

Their recent record also incredibly shows just a solitary defeat in their last forty-nine games, although they are still a couple of divisions below the current FA Trophy holders.

“We’ve got a massive game on Saturday and a great opportunity to get through the next round of the FA Cup,” Parslow told BBC Radio York. “Last season they had success at Wembley like us, and they’re a good team doing very well in the league they’re in.

“So it’s a tough draw for us, we know that. But we need to prove that we can go away to teams that are expected to do well. Having beaten Salford last round, we know we can do the same again.

“It will be a big crowd and they’ve had success at home,” he added. “So we know that we can’t go up there half-hearted or cold. So we’ll be ready from the first whistle.

“We’ve had some great runs in the FA Cup at this club and the first aim is to get to the first round proper – and then hopefully you can get to the magic third round and get a big tie.”
