York City’s Under-18s crushed neighbours Harrogate Town 5-0 in their FA Youth Cup first qualifying round tie at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermites took a firm hold of the tie on eleven minutes when right-back Joe Kemp’s forward delivery witnessed Aaron Haswell crossing for sixteen-year-old striker Ryan Edmondson to locate the far corner.

That was added to just past the half-hour as the bustling Edmondson headed on goalkeeper Ryan Whitley’s towering clearance and Haswell easily outmuscled his marker. Left-back Zac Lawrence then curled in a superb twenty-yard free-kick to further improve the margin in first-half added time.

And City went on to confirm their superiority after the break through a deflected strike from midfielder Harry Thompson, while skipper Josh Rogerson also headed onto the crossbar before substitute Flynn McNaughton seized upon a mistake by the onrushing replacement goalkeeper.
