It will be a major test of character for York City Ladies as they take on North East Regional Premier League newcomers Farsley Celtic at Haxby Road on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.00pm).

The Minsterbelles suffered their heaviest defeat in fourteen months while crashing to a 10-0 reversal at table-topping Durham Cestria last weekend.

That included the visitors conceding six times during the final twenty-five minutes of the game, against opponents who had already put twelve without reply past Castleford White Rose back in September.

For good measure, Cestria also struck nine while leaving Wakefield scoreless a couple of months later, meaning it’s now a combined 35 goals scored in their four home league games to date – with a recent 4-1 triumph against Hartlepool United adding to their considerable tally.

City’s latest game at least witnessed a welcome return to action for ex-Bradford City centre-back Laura Midgley following injury, while former reserve winger Lindsay Jordan received her first senior start. However, there were still a number of key absentees from their squad.

Farsley have performed well since their recent promotion and most impressively remain the only side to take points off Durham having surprisingly defeated them 1-0 at home in early October.

The visitors also boast a couple of league victories against Castleford (A 3-2, H 7-0), with accompanying defeats to Norton & Stockton Ancients (A 0-2) and RACA Tynedale (H 3-4) in their so far restricted five games.

Elsewhere this weekend, leaders Durham travel to Castleford, second-placed Norton & Stockton host RACA Tyendale, with bottom club Wakefield visiting Wallsend BC.
