York City youth-team’s impressive winning sequence was halted by a 4-2 defeat at EFL Youth Alliance North East Division leaders Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Riley O’Sullivan claimed a brace for the table-topping hosts, with Keaton Ward (pen) and Nyle Blake similarly on target as they eased into a comfortable four-goal lead.
Striker O’Sullivan had opened their account from close-range inside ten minutes and Ward’s penalty improved upon it just before the interval.
Blake then fired high into the net midway through the second period, while O’Sullivan added his second courtesy of a firm drive with five minutes remaining.
But the visitors hit back late on through skipper Josh Rogerson’s header and substitute Nathan Dyer’s spectacular long-range strike.
City had already previously accounted for Lincoln City (H 1-0), Burton Albion (A 2-1), Doncaster Rovers (A 1-0) and Scunthorpe United (H 2-0) – and now face a couple more away trips to Notts County and Oldham Athletic.
