York City manager Martin Foyle has told his players to make sure they avoid trouble ahead of the play-offs.

The Minstermen have already been fined £1,000 this season for “a failure to ensure their players` conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” during a league fixture at Cambridge United.

Since then they have also been involved in heated exchanges during a home game with Altrincham, while the midweek victory over Barrow witnessed similar scenes following an angry touchline skirmish that ended with five players being cautioned.

That left Foyle anticipating more FA sanctions, although he was quick to defend his players as he told The Press: “Just like at Cambridge, we haven`t done anything but the authorities will want to know about it. Against Barrow, their lad kicked out at Chris Carruthers and James Meredith went to separate them and then got attacked by four of their players.

“Twelve of them then rushed in including their staff and none of our lads reacted until Michael Rankine came in later, but I think the lads needed his support.”
