York City boss Martin Foyle has stressed that current reserve strikers Michael Gash and Richard Pacquette will still prove vital members of his squad during the play-offs.

Gash was a scorer in midweek with his first goal since Boxing Day after appearing as a late substitute against Barrow, while fellow replacement Pacquette has also weighed in with some important strikes this term.

However, Richard Brodie (32 goals) and Michael Rankine (10 goals) are current first-choices at Bootham Crescent, although Foyle has stressed that it is the strength in depth that could eventually prove crucial.

“We could be in a position where we are losing in the play-offs and need to throw on the forwards and I have a good set to choose from,” he told The Press.

“It`s been a frustrating time for some players because we can`t play everybody and people are worried about contracts at this stage of the season,” continued Foyle.

“But I`m trying very hard to keep a happy ship because you don`t know what`s around the corner in terms of injuries, illness or whatever and this is the best group of players I have had for a long time. They have done whatever I have asked from them.”
