Manager Martin Gray says York City must now back-up their weekend victory when travelling to promotion rivals Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday evening.
The Minstermen’s narrow 1-0 success against Boston United was only their second in the last seven games – but sufficient to move them up to fourth place in the table.
“It’s a massive game [Kidderminster] for the club,” Gray admitted to BBC Radio York. “We’ve put ourselves in a great position after the win on Saturday, and we’ve got to make sure we back it up.
“I’ve seen the best of Kidderminster, and if you allow them to do what they’re good at, they cause you problems. So we’re well aware of their strengths.
“We’ve got to make sure we go down there being very, very solid. And making sure that we stay in the game.”
Leading scorer Jon Parkin returns at Aggborough having now completed a three-match suspension following his recent sending-off at Curzon Ashton.
That’s because York’s North Riding Senior Cup defeat to Middlesbrough last week bizarrely counts alongside his missed appearances against Alfreton Town and Boston.
“Jon comes back into the team; there’s no question about that,” Gray insisted. “He’s essential to what we do and his goals and his game. He’ll come straight back into the starting line-up.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Simon Heslop is similarly travelling as his suspension for being sent-off against Boston doesn’t start until the weekend.
“He’s just got a two-game ban, which is official now,” Gray revealed. “It could have been worse, it could have been three. I know he’s been suspended once this season already. That [second suspension] starts from Saturday.”
