York City Ladies have won their first North Riding Senior County Cup for four years with victory over current holders Middlesbrough.

In a repeat of last year’s final the score ended goalless after extra-time, with the City Ladies eventually victorious 5-4 on penalties.

Debra Salter, Ruth Brazier, Rachel Deighton and Kate Jackson were all successful from the spot, with Donna Corner converting the vital penalty after Nicola Duckling had missed Boro’s first attempt.

York keeper Sam Knight had earlier made a succession of fine saves before later being kept in hospital overnight with concussion as a result of her bravery.
