New signing Leon Constantine was keen to join York City because of his respect for their manager Martin Foyle.

Constantine netted on his Minstermen debut at the weekend and previously worked with Foyle when scoring 32 goals in 72 league games during a successful spell at Port Vale.

“[Foyle] is a major, major factor in me coming here,” he told BBC Radio York. “We’ve got a good understanding. He helped me out when I was at Port Vale and it was good playing under him, and to do it again was a selling point.

“I’ve got that experience. I’ve played in the League for about ten years now, you learn things along the way, and I’m still learning as well,” Constantine added.

“My aim’s just to keep trying to put in good performances and help the team to do well.”

Constantine has been signed for the rest of the season after playing for Hereford United last term.
