LATEST NEWS:
York City will face opposition from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Lincoln City if they want to re-sign their former defender Ben Purkiss.
“Ben is one of those right-backs, who is a lovely footballer, a good defender with a fantastic attitude” – Steve Tilson |
The 27-year-old has been given a free transfer by Oxford United and Lincoln boss Steve Tilson has said he would dearly like to take him to Sincil Bank.
“Ben is one of those right-backs, who is a lovely footballer, a good defender with a fantastic attitude,” Tilson told This Is Lincolnshire. “He has a good pedigree and played more than 100 games for York where he did very well which eventually clinched him a move to Oxford.
“He still has one year left on his contract there, but has been given a free transfer and yes he is somebody I am interested in,” he added. “But I think the problem we face is that he wants to stay in the league.
“He may even decide to remain at Oxford which he is entitled to do, but I’ll keep on monitoring that situation to see what’s happening.”
The Minstermen expect to sign a new right-back by the weekend and Purkiss is still one of the names in the frame.
