New signing Michael Potts says that moving to York City just felt right.

“I just want to play football. I don’t want to be sitting in reserves” – Michael Potts

The 19-year-old ball-winner has agreed a two-year deal with the Minstermen after leaving Premier League Blackburn Rovers.

A former Manchester United youngster, Potts was a regular for Rovers’ reserves last season and also made their senior squad without managing an appearance.

“I got a phone call asking me to come down. As I got here it just felt right,” Potts told BBC Radio York. “The chairman and manager have been great with me. I just want to play football. I don’t want to be sitting in reserves. I need to be playing with adults in competitive games.”

York manager Gary Mills added: “He’s a good player. He’s 19, he’s come out of the Premier League, he’s hungry to get back there, he wants to help me get York City promoted.

“I want to show him what a good player he can be, get him to his absolute maximum of the player he should be, and can be, because that’s my job. I want him to smile and enjoy his football and he’ll do that at York.”

Potts becomes York’s sixth summer signing, with a new right-back also expected to join the club within the next 48 hours.
