Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren is ready to include some of his youngsters against York City on Wednesday evening.

The York-born chief was expected to rotate his options for the forthcoming games against the Minstermen and leading Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Youngsters Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana, Lubo Satka and Shane Ferguson could all be involved at Bootham Crescent, according to the Chronicle, in addition to goalkeeper Fred Woodman.

Newcastle take on Southampton on the opening day of the season and the selected team is likely to be similar to the one facing their German visitors on Sunday, with newcomer Aleksandar Mitrovic earning a home debut.

Meanwhile, it’s York’s penultimate pre-season run-out prior to visiting FC Halifax Town at the weekend – although it is understood there is set to be a behind-closed-doors-game next week.
