LATEST NEWS:
York City’s latest signing Patrick McLaughlin is a winner according to his new manager Gary Mills.
“He’s not afraid. He’s a winner, he’s hungry and that’s why I’ve brought him to this club” – Gary Mills |
The 20-year-old has signed a two-year deal for the Minstermen after being released by Newcastle United.
He captained their reserve side last season and has also been capped by Northern Ireland up to Under-21 level.
“I thought York was the best club for me,” McLaughlin told BBC Radio York. “The gaffer has given me the chance to come down here and play some football. My aims are promotion and hopefully to play the best football of my career.
“I’m really excited for the season ahead. I’ve played against Conference teams in pre-season friendlies,” he continued. “I’m very impressed with the level of football in this league. I think it will definitely help me to improve as a player.”
York manager Gary Mills added: “He’s a good midfield player, good on the ball, with good vision. He will get us a few goals and I feel he’s the right age.
“He’s not afraid. He’s a winner, he’s hungry and that’s why I’ve brought him to this club – to help me and the rest of the players take this club forward.”
