Midfielder Patrick McLaughlin has become York City’s ninth summer signing after arriving at the club from Newcastle United.

“Patrick is someone I’ve wanted now for a few weeks. I’ve hung on, I had other options I’ve got to say, but I’ve hung on for Patrick to get a yes from him” – Gary Mills

The 20-year-old skippered the Magpies reserve side last season after originally signing a full contract three years ago. McLaughlin has also played for Northern Ireland at all youth levels.

“I’m delighted. The midfield was the final part of my jigsaw for my team, for my squad of players,” manager Gary Mills told York’s official website. “Patrick is someone I’ve wanted now for a few weeks. I’ve hung on, I had other options I’ve got to say, but I’ve hung on for Patrick to get a yes from him. It’s finally come and I believe I’ve got the right man to help me and help this football club to move forward.

“I’ve got a player here who will thrive on this league,” he added. “I’ve got a player who will show he’s got the experience in that he knows how to play. I’m delighted to have his signature.”
