Released York City striker Michael Gash has agreed a one-year deal at former club Cambridge United.

“It’s one of those moves where I know I’ve got to prove myself and hopefully this can be the year and the season for me” – Michael Gash

The 24-year-old originally joined the Minstermen in a £55,000 transfer from Ebbsfleet United two years ago but subsequently managed only seven goals in 33 starts at Bootham Crescent. He eventually finished last season on loan at Rushden & Diamonds.

“I am very happy to be back,” Gash told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. “It’s one of those moves where I know I’ve got to prove myself and hopefully this can be the year and the season for me.

“My time before here didn’t really work out for me,” he conceded. “Not only have I got a point to prove to manager Jez George, but to the fans as well.”
