Reserve goalkeeper Josh Mimms was perhaps a surprise departure in York City manager Martin Foyle’s released list earlier this week.

Mimms has been with the club for the past three years, but has since been restricted to only an occasional supporting role that has brought him just a dozen senior appearances.

Nevertheless, he was recently called up to the England ‘C’ squad for the International Challenge Trophy later this month.

But Foyle has revealed that the decision was actually taken very much with the player’s own interest in mind.

“It`s been done partly to help Josh,” Foyle told The Press. “His attitude has been fantastic and he`s never been a problem for me or let me down.

“But sometimes you can wear people down in football and I think he`s in that situation. I hope he will be thanking me in three months` time when he`s playing regular first-team football somewhere else.”

The York boss will now consider his keeper options as he remains undecided on the future of 40-year-old Aussie goalkeeping coach Simon Miotto, who is also currently registered as a player.
