Adam Smith and Djoumin Sangare will both have to prove their form and fitness before they are offered new deals by York City.

The duo are expected to be invited back for pre-season training so that a decision can be taken on their immediate futures.

Former Gainsborough Trinity winger Smith, in particular, had a very disappointing campaign last term in which he managed a rather inconsistent eighteen starts and a couple of goals.

That followed earlier signs of real promise after he joined the club midway through the previous season following extensive negotiations with his former club.

French-born centre-back Sangare fared a little better last term after arriving at Bootham Crescent in the summer upon his release from Salisbury City. However, he suffered with injury and fitness problems and his opportunities were in turn restricted.

“Talks are ongoing with Adam and Jimmy and I`ve given them honest opinions about what I need,” Foyle told The Press. “Adam was fantastic before Christmas and Jimmy also did really well but I haven`t seen enough of them in terms of appearances.

“The ball is in their court really. If they come back and do the business for me, I will look after them.”

Meanwhile, left-back Andy McWilliams is likely to be sent out on loan next season to further his development.

The former youth product is currently halfway through his first professional contract, but managed only three senior appearances last term.

“Andy was given a two-year contract last summer as a reward for playing 20 games for me,” added Foyle. “I saw some potential but we raised the bar last summer and attracted better players who have done well.

“He will have another chance to break into the team during pre-season. Otherwise, we will look to get him out on loan to continue his development.”
