One step further for Jason

York City chairman Jason McGill is aiming for a return to the Football League after his club came so close to achieving that objective just three months ago.

But a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat to Oxford United in their play-off final at Wembley in May eventually consigned the Minstermen to a seventh successive season in the Conference.

And it left Malton-based businessman McGill hoping that his side can finally go that one crucial step further this time around.

“The aim for the coming season is to try to go one step further and gain promotion to the Football League,” he told The Press.

“We have successfully maintained the core of last season`s squad and we have supported the management team in their aim to further strengthen the team with the addition of the new players we have signed.”
