Record seven-times winners York City Ladies are in County Cup semi-final action this weekend when visiting neighbours Poppleton Ladies on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.00pm).

The Minsterbelles will be aiming for a third straight North Riding Senior Cup for the second time in eight years having already previously achieved that particular feat between 2010 and 2012.

No other club can match York’s record of appearing in ten of the twelve finals so far, with five-times winners Middlesbrough currently the next highest achievers on eight.

However, Boro are already out of this year’s competition having suffered a walkover defeat to Guisborough in the opening round.

York were also to benefit from a non-appearance from visitors Brooklyn Ladies in their quarter-final – as indeed were weekend opponents Poppleton against Cleveland Ladies.

City Ladies will be strong favourites on Sunday having actually defeated their hosts while on their way to lifting the trophy in April 2016.

On that occasion, Nat Eustance, Beth Clayton, Becca Dawson, Kayleigh Davis and Ellie Harding were on target in a 5-1 semi-final triumph; that despite leading goalscorer Lucy Lendhill finding herself cup-tied.

Striker Lendhill, of course, helped the Belles to a crucial 4-1 home victory against RACA Tynedale when claiming a brace in their latest league fixture, with Anna Whitehead and Lindsay Jordan adding further strikes.

It means that York are currently unbeaten in their last three games having also lately overcome Boldon CA Villa and drawn with Farsley Celtic.

The other weekend semi-final is between Redcar Town and Boro Rangers, the latter of whom City already knocked out of the League Cup back in September.
