Former Reading and Swindon Town boss Jimmy Quinn is the first name to throw his cap into the ring for the managerial vacancy at York City.

The 50-year-old ex-Northern Ireland international striker has applied for the job following the shock departure of Martin Foyle from Bootham Crescent.

Quinn certainly has plenty of experience at Conference level having already helped Shrewsbury Town reclaim their Football League status at the first attempt after taking charge in 2003-04.

He also led Cambridge United into the play-off final a couple of years ago, only to lose out to Exeter City at Wembley.

“Because of what I have done in the past with Cambridge and Shrewsbury, I see York as one of those clubs that I could get going again and help them back to their glory days,” Quinn told The Press.

“When I took over at Cambridge, the club were near the bottom of the table, I kept them up and then the following season we finished second.

“I wouldn`t take a job at any club but York City are a very well-run outfit and it is a lovely city, which makes it easier to attract players,” he added.

“I am single and would not mind moving to York. It`s a great place to live.”
