Strikers low in confidence

York City’s struggling strikers are low on confidence according to manager Martin Foyle after their collective goal drought was maintained at the weekend.

Leading marksman Richard Brodie hasn’t found the back of the net for eleven games, while the recent run of big money signing Michael Gash is even worse and currently stands at fifteen. Fellow summer arrival Michael Rankine has failed to score in his last ten games.

Those figures perhaps go some way to explaining why York haven’t managed more than one goal in any of their last sixteen games – not since the 4-1 home victory over Hayes & Yeading United in mid-January have the Minstermen really prospered in front of goal.

Fortunately that spell has included nine clean sheets of their own and, as a result, six victories – each by a 1-0 scoreline, although only four of those have come in the league.

“We did not do particularly well on the ball and all the strikers are a bit low on confidence, which is showing in their play,” Foyle told BBC Radio York.

“We need to put an arm around them, keep working with them on the training ground and, hopefully, something special will happen soon.”
