York City boss Martin Gray was simply fuming despite witnessing his side progressing in the FA Trophy after a 3-1 victory against Coalville Town at Bootham Crescent.

Sixteen-goal leading marksman Jon Parkin added a couple of second-half penalties to Gary Martin’s first strike for the club, although it was yet another cheap concession that left the City supremo absolutely blazing after the contest.

“I’m fuming and just raised the roof in the dressing room,” Gray admitted to BBC Radio York. “It’s unacceptable and things have got to change. I’ll never dig out anybody live on radio, but I’m absolutely fuming that we score a goal and within eight seconds the ball’s in the back of our net. Not through great play, but by being ill-disciplined.

“As I’ve said if we want to progress and kick-on, that’s got to change – personnel, individuals, about the leadership and desire to not get the ball in the back of the net,” he continued. That’s what it’s about. You’ve got to have that hunger and desire – win the game 3-0, you can’t concede a goal against anybody in that manner.

“It’s not acceptable and I won’t accept it,” Gray reiterated. “It’s got to change because every week since I’ve come in we’ve conceded a soft goal. It’s a mentality thing. You can’t afford that complacency, From the first minute to the last minute you’ve got to make sure you’re switched on and focused.”

However, the Minstermen are now unbeaten in their last four games while winning three of them – and the current FA Trophy holders will discover their next opponents when the first round proper draw is held on Monday.
