Defender Marcus Williams is looking towards a fresh challenge having joined York City on loan from Guiseley until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old left-back is already hugely experienced with in excess of 250 senior appearances at a much higher level while taking in spells at Scunthorpe United, Sheffield United, Peterborough United and Reading.

“I know Dave Penney and played for him at Guiseley,” Williams told BBC Radio York. “He also knows of me from when he was at Doncaster Rovers. We’ve been in touch for a while since he left.

“York is a big club and should be in the league. But it is what it is and obviously the aim is to get promoted.

“I’m looking forward to a fresh new challenge and to push on,” he continued. “I know what’s required and what’s needed. I had a brief chat with Martin [Gray] when I came in and he told me what we have to do.

“There’s no reason why we can’t because there’s enough quality and depth to get promoted.”
