Promising young striker Alex Kempster has signed a new one-year deal with York City.

The 22-year-old netted twice in eight senior appearances for the Minstermen last season upon his arrival from Whitley Bay in February.

He had earlier scored a hat-trick for City’s reserves in a 5-2 victory against Hartlepool United, and was immediately rewarded with an initial deal running until the end of the campaign.

“I’m happy to get everything sorted early doors,” Kempster told York’s official YouTube channel. “So I can recharge the batteries and come back pre-season and hit the ground running.

“It’s a good club,” he continued. “We didn’t get where we wanted to be last season but I feel that promotion’s on the cards next season.

“We know that we underplayed last season and didn’t get where we wanted to be. But it’s a great crowd here and hopefully we can repay them.”
