Goalkeeper Adam Bartlett recognises the next couple of games as particularly crucial to York City’s promotion hopes.

Play-off rivals Southport and Chorley both visit Bootham Crescent this week and will be looking to improve their own chances of making it into the top seven.

The Minstermen currently hold respective six and five point advantages over that pair following each suffering surprise home defeats at the weekend.

“Going into the [Southport] game, if we win we’ve seven games left and are nine points ahead,” Bartlett told BBC Radio York. “That’s a big turnaround. Obviously it’s not impossible in football but it gives us that little bit of breathing space between us and a few teams just outside the top seven.

“And with Chorley at the weekend, they had a negative result as well on Saturday. So we’ve got to try take advantage of that,” he added. “And at the earlier possible opportunity playing the two of them, we could really start to be looking in a healthy position.”
