Young teenage striker Flynn McNaughton is ready for the call should manager Martin Gray again require his services at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

The seventeen-year-old prospect has recently taken his youth-team goalscoring form [eleven goals] into City’s reserve side – notably against Grimsby Town yesterday and previously at Walsall – and has remarkably forced himself into contention for a full senior debut following a trio of substitute appearances.

The Minstermen currently have 25-goal leading marksman Jon Parkin sidelined along with Louis Almond and Alex Kempster, while their remaining couple of senior forwards, James Gray and Raul Correia, have managed just two goals between them.

“Obviously I was a little bit nervous coming on for my first appearance,” McNaughton admitted to The Press. “But after that first one I settled down a little bit the last two times I have come on.

“I’d be happy to start if the gaffer needs me to,” the former Scarborough Athletic youngster added. “With the injury situation I had a feeling my chance might come eventually but I didn’t think it would be this early.”
