York City’s likely opponents in their play-off semi-final, Oxford United, will still take some beating according to their manager Chris Wilder.

The former Halifax Town boss has watched his side’s title challenge fade badly recently after managing only one win in their last eight games.

However, three games without defeat has renewed optimism at the Kassam Stadium, despite Wilder believing that his team have already been written off in some quarters.

“We are a decent side, we have to back ourselves,” Wilder told BBC Oxford. “It will take a really good side to beat us,” he continued. “I’m really looking forward to the end of the season.

“We have been written off, but I still think there is a team in there which can win two games in the play-offs and go to the final at Wembley.”

Oxford are currently third in the table and three points ahead of the Minstermen with one game in hand. And with forthcoming home games against both Mansfield Town and Wrexham followed by a final day trip to Eastbourne Borough, they should be able to hold onto that advantage.

Fourth-placed York currently lead Rushden & Diamonds by two points and finish their campaign with a home clash against already relegated Grays Athletic and a visit to probable champions Stevenage Borough.

However, with Rushden having a harder looking run-in against Wrexham (A) and Luton Town (H), it would now appear likely that Martin Foyle will be up against his former club Oxford in the play-off semi-finals.
