York City manager Martin Foyle praised his side’s response as they returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Barrow at Bootham Crescent.

The prolific Richard Brodie added two more to his tally to raise it to an incredible thirty-two this season, while substitute Michael Gash ended a personal goal drought lasting nineteen games.

The victory raised York into fourth-place in the table after Rushden & Diamonds succumbed to a late winner at Mansfield Town.

“It was a good response,” Foyle told BBC Radio York. “The weather dictated, I don’t think people appreciate how strong that wind was. We had to defend it first-half and I thought we tried to play, but it’s still a very, very lively surface,” he continued.

“We had to turn them and I think they are vulnerable at the back and with early balls over the top and down the sides and that’s what we did for the majority of the second-half.”

Barrow are currently in a punishing schedule of five games in just ten days whilst also preparing for an FA Trophy final appearance against Stevenage Borough.

“They are a good side and i think they played some decent football. I think they will cause Stevenage some problems when they get to the [FA Trophy] Final,” added Foyle.

“I was pleased with the response and the work ethic. It was a hard game but we came out worthy winners.”

The Minstermen meet already relegated Grays Athletic in their final home game of the season at the weekend before wrapping up their campaign at current leaders Stevenage Borough seven days later.
