Dave Winfield is an ideal captain for York City in the absence of Russell Penn believes manager Russ Wilcox.

“He’s a good organiser and leads by example” – Russ Wilcox

The 27-year-old took over the armband after the Minstermen’s regular skipper
was ruled out with a foot injury prior
to the 3-0 victory at Newport County.

Winfield already has over 250 senior games to his credit and previous leadership duties at both Wycombe Wanderers and Aldershot Town.

“He was captain at Wycombe when they got promoted and I feel he’s in the right area of the pitch for the job, being in the centre of a back three,” Wilcox told The Press. “He’s a good organiser and leads by example. He makes the first contact with a lot of balls and that takes the pressure off the rest of the team.”
