York City’s hopes of getting their points back following the departure of Chester City from the Blue Square Premier have been ended by the Football Association upholding the Football Conference’s decision to expunge their records.

The Minstermen were one of ten clubs, including both Stevenage Borough and Oxford United, supporting the appeal that Chester’s record should be allowed to stand. But those clubs have since been advised by the FA that their appeal arrived too late and was “out of time.”

The solicitors representing the clubs claimed the decision to expunge Chester was actually made on 8th March and not 26th February.

However, the FA’s subsequent letter to the solicitors acting on behalf of the ten clubs said: “The FA is satisfied that the decision of the Board of the Football Conference was first announced by the League on the 26th February and, consequently, the appeal is out of time.”
