Defender Dave Winfield believes York City’s results over the closing weeks of last season gives plenty of cause for optimism.

“The players showed they are more than capable of playing at this level” – Dave Winfield

The 27-year-old started only ten games last term but played a key role for the Minstermen after returning from a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon in March.

“Where strengthening now takes place is up to the manager,” Winfield told The Press. “But, during the last month or two, there was a definite improvement in form.

“The players showed they are more than capable of playing at this level and that’s important moving forward.”
