York City have an opportunity to extract a little revenge over Doncaster Rovers in the Capital One Cup tomorrow evening following a narrow defeat to them in the same competition two years ago.

In what was their first competitive game since their famous Wembley triumph over Luton Town, summer signing Michael Coulson gave the visitors the lead midway through the second-half with a terrific strike.

However, that was soon cancelled out by Chris Brown following Lee Bullock’s challenge on David Cotterill

The Minstermen were backed by around 1,300 supporters and they proceeded to witness a scoreless extra-time and penalty shoot-out in which goalscorer Coulson blazed their first spot-kick over the crossbar.

Wembley hero Matty Blair repeated the act and although both Jon Challinor and Michael Potts were more successful, City exited the competition against a side who had been three divisions above them the previous season.
