Sangare set to continue

York City centre-back Djoumin Sangare appears set to hold onto his first-team place despite the return to fitness of both skipper Danny Parslow and his long-time defensive colleague David McGurk.

Former Ebbsfleet United defender Sangare has filled in of late alongside the dependable Luke Graham after seasoned pair Parslow and McGurk were recently both consigned to the sidelines.

Club skipper Parslow himself had earlier been forced across into the right-back position due to the consistent form of ex-Mansfield Town stopper Graham.

However, Parslow has since lost that spot to Ben Purkiss, while McGurk again looks likely to be biding his time on the bench as manager Martin Foyle persists with French-born Sangare at the heart of the Minstermen’s rearguard.

“Jimmy has made a centre-back place his own again,” Foyle told The Press.

“He was rusty in the first game against Barrow, but maybe that was because we put him on the left side,” he added.

“He gave away a lot of free-kicks and a penalty at Barrow and that`s still in his game, but he was very strong against Robbie Matthews at Kidderminster and Luke Graham, alongside him, is probably our unsung hero.”
