York City look to recover from another poor performance at the weekend when hosting Kettering Town at Bootham Crescent tonight. The Minstermen went down to a 2-1 defeat at part-timers Eastbourne Borough in a display that won’t have helped caretaker boss Andy Porter’s chances of a permanent appointment into the role. Kettering are themselves under the leadership of a new manager. Marcus Law has recently arrived from Barwell and celebrated by beginning with a 2-1 home victory over Hayes & Yeading United at the weekend.

Vital Quotes:

“All the squad are in my mind and David Dowson is different to what we have got,” York caretaker manager Andy Porter told The Press. “I looked back on the weekend`s match and we created a lot of chances. We`ve got to finish them but I would be more worried if we weren`t carving out opportunities.”

“First impressions were really good,” Kettering defender John Dempster told BBC Radio Northampton following the recent appointment of new manager Marcus Law. “He’s confident and he has his own radical ideas, which is brilliant to freshen things up. He knows how he wants his team to set up – and he’s a winner. That’s quite clear from the way he speaks in front of a group. That’s bound to breed confidence and I’m sure it’s the starting point for us to progress up the league table.”

York City Team News:

York will give a late fitness test to Michael Rankine after suffering an ankle injury at the weekend. If he fails to recover former Sunderland striker David Dowson could be handed a full debut. Midfielder Danny Racchi was also expected to return from a virus, but Chris Carruthers, Levi Mackin and George Purcell are still unavailable.
York City (possible): Ingham, Parslow, McGurk, Young, Meredith, Till, Lawless, Barrett, Fyfield, Gash, Dowson
subs (from): Knight, Courtney, Smith, Constantine, Racchi, Sangare

Player to watch: David Dowson

York really need somebody to kick-start their flagging attack and caretaker boss Andy Porter will be hoping the 22-year-old former Sunderland striker can do the business after a lively substitute appearance at Eastbourne.

Kettering Town Team News:

On loan Darlington reserve goalkeeper Kelvin Jack should continue after making his debut at the weekend, while Ashley Westwood is also available after completing a three-match suspension. However, striker Moses Ashikodi (knee) and left-back Sol Davis (thigh) are both out.
Kettering Town (probable): Jack, Noubissie, Dempster, Graham, Taylor, Dance, Solkhon, Boucaud, Makofo, Christie, Marna

Player to watch: Luke Graham

The former York defender made an excellent impression for them last season and was one of the major reasons for their successful run into the play-offs.
