Former skipper Russell Penn is keen to relive previous “fantastic memories” after rejoining York City following his departure from Gateshead.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been confirmed as manager Martin Gray’s first signing during a summer of major rebuilding at Bootham Crescent.

“I still live around the area and have done for the last couple of clubs I’ve been at,” Penn toldĀ York’s official YouTube channel. “It’s a place I call home now really, so in football terms I’m buzzing.

“Fantastic memories for me here. It was unfortunate we ended on a relegation because a lot of fans put you in that bracket.

“But I’d like to think the two-and-a-half years here, the fans saw what I was capable of,” he added. “I got to the League Two play-offs a couple of years before and scored some good goals, and worked with some very good people.

“It’s a new era now and time to put things right.”
